John Whitworth
financial wiz, visual planner, problem solver, interpreter of data, mathematician, strategic thinker, translates theory into practice
John says... Thoughtware is all about changing perception. New thinking brings new solutions and opportunities to complex problems. My approach is to go beyond tools and training; to look around, ask tough questions; quickly learn about the customer's business. Then I am able to add my own passion and creativity to help the customer develop and apply new thoughtware. To see a customer take new ideas and run with them; then to come back 6 or 12 months later and see even better ideas - is very rewarding to me personally.
John has significant experience in material and information flow logistics, process improvement, cost management and performance measurement. His work has taken him from the roar of paper mills to the heat of float glass production; from financial services managing billions of dollars to railroad operations moving millions of tons of freight; from Chinese factories to German call centres.
John believes that traditional costing systems impede rather than support world class manufacturing goals. According to John, - a Certified Management Accountant - Lean Accounting puts the value added back into management accounting processes by making available the right costs and measurments in support of operations.
John also uses Activity Based Costing to address more strategic issues such as acquisitions, pricing policies, target costing, customer profitability and long range planning.
"John has helped us to identify and focus on the real issues, to spend time on value-added tasks, to eliminate waste, to isolate and solve everyday bottlenecks, and to realize the little successes along the way. Drawing upon his years of experience, John has pointed us towards a continuous improvement environment that truly cares about what you think and about your contribution. He has helped us to focus on processes that will help us sustain success and, most importantly, identify and deliver what our customers really want - consistently." Allan McLellan, Continuous Improvement Manager, Mold Masters
